NOTE:
There are 360 licensed taxi companies serving Cartagena. Combined, they have about 450 taxis, which means there are hundreds of family licensed companies with only one or two taxis. The largest company with the I.D. number of UAN, has 113 taxis. Most cabs are owned by the company, and some by the driver or his family. Drivers work off of a split percentage of the receipts with a higher percentage going to drivers who own and maintain, and gas up their vehicles. There are about a half dozen female taxi drivers. Every time I've been in a cab I always ask the driver if he/she has ever been in an accident. One hundred percent of the drivers have responded with pride: "no". Hard to believe considering that some of the rides I've had have scared the hell out of me!
