Then
and Now - 100 Years of Photographic
History of Cartagena, Colombia
The
following Then and Now Photographs of Cartagena de
Indias, Colombia are the work representative of
the love and dedication in preserving the photographic history
of Cartagena, by our late friend Dorothy Johnson de Espinosa.
During
March/April of 2007, the following photographs were on
open display just inside the walled clock gate entrance
to the historic city. Dorothy would have been proud to
see the keen interest shown by both young and old alike
as thousands gazed in amazement at the photographically
documented changes which have occurred over the past 100+
years in Cartagena, Colombia.
We hope you enjoyed the photographs, and encourage your
vacation visit, which for many, has lead to the purchase
of a future vacation or retirement home in Cartagena.
Dorothy Johnson, who resided in Castillogrande, was from
the U.S., and was married to a prominent Cartagena Doctor
and a co-founder of the Bocagrande Hospital. For the tens
of thousands of hours she dedicated to preserving the
photographic history of one of the most historic cities
in the Western Hemisphere- we thank you Dorothy.
NOTE: We apologize for some of the effects
that shadows of nearby trees played on the photographs.
Most of the old photographs were digitally enhanced (with
Google´s Picasa software) to provide more contrast,
resolution, and where called for, a return to the original
sepia or a digitized black and white photograph.
Sincerely, James. |
