ORLANDO, Fla. (UCFAthletics.com) - Only in her first season with the Knights, UCF women's tennis freshman Andrea Yacaman was selected as the first Conference USA Player of the Month this fall, the league office announced Tuesday. The Cartagena, Colombia, native went 6-1 to open her singles career and has already claimed titles in singles and doubles.

"I'm definitely impressed by Andrea early on this fall," said head coach Stephanie Nickitas. "She has a tremendous work ethic that is paying off in her results. I think this is just the beginning of things to come from her. I'm really proud of her, and I expect her to continue to do well this season."

Yacaman started her career in a Black and Gold uniform at the Florida Gator Fall Classic Sept. 19-21. In a field that featured three programs ranked in the top 25 a year ago, Yacaman defeated Kentucky's Lauren Meier, 6-2, 2-6, 1-0(10-8) on day one of the Flight B draw, then reached the quarters thanks to a convincing 6-2, 6-2 triumph over USF's Allyn Mueller. Yacaman needed a come-from-behind win against USF's Jessica Sweeting to get to the finals, where she topped Kentucky's Jennifer Stone in straight-sets for the first-place crown.

Andrea Yacaman started her UCF career with six-straight singles wins.

A few weeks later at the Rollins C.L. Varner Memorial Invitational Oct. 10-12, Yacaman picked up two 6-0, 6-0 wins for a spot in the Flight A singles quarterfinals. In doubles, she teamed up with Elvira Serrot and the duo dominated the Flight A bracket. Taking on some of the best teams in Division II, including national champion Armstrong Atlantic State, Yacaman and Serrot cruised through four matches to capture the title.

Yacaman and the Knights are back on the courts for the ITA South Regionals Oct. 24-27 in Athens, Ga.
