Just
to the right of the Convento de San Francisco, this church has an interesting
wooden ceiling with beautifully carved cross pieces in the central vault.
It is rumored that the hero Don Blas de Lezo is interred within the
church. Don Blas was the one eyed, one legged, one armed general who
in 1741 defeated British Admiral Edward Vernon, in what became known
as the largest naval assult, involving 186 ships, in early maritime
history.
